The Mirror Exercise is one of the best techniques I know to turn negative self-talk into positive self-talk. If you stick with it, then after four or five days a shift occurs, and you begin to speak positively to yourself regardless of events that occur.
Doing the Mirror Exercise helped me identify my negative behavior patterns much faster than in years past. I was able to turn them around, and continue on my path.
